Dance then wherever you may be.

—"Lord of the Dance"
Words: Syndey Carter, 1963

I have a friend who recently learned how to dance. Already she had
waltzed, two-stepped, and Charlestoned; she even may have taught others how to run across the ballroom floor. But this was truly dancing—dancing in the heart, dancing with herself and no one else around, dancing in excitement. She was dancing with God.

Few of us learn to dance with God. To stand up at the break of day and jump into the rhythm of life is more than most of us want to do with ourselves. We'd rather hold ourselves back and not get too close to the divine.

Plus, if we literally danced across the floor with God's very arms
wrapped around us—that would be too crazy, too schizo, too insane. It'd be enough to have others call us a fanatic.

But that's exactly what she did. She heard a deep, deep music in her soul and she stretched out her hands and danced with God. Letting herself go, she discovered that God would catch her, hold her in those arms of grace, and glide with her to something she had not imagined. She found a newness in her life—not the “answer” kind of newness but the life-giving kind.

And it has made all the difference.

Dance with me God and let me discover a new day in my life. Amen.
