And you will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.
—Jeremiah 29:13
It happens when we are on a search for something. Time seems to stand still. Our senses are poised as we look for clues for that thing we desire, and other priorities in life take a back seat.
We may be looking for a part for a car we're restoring, or an outfit for a particular event, or a partner for a gala affair, or a church in an obscure village in the south of France. We are, in common lingo, "on a mission." We find we are unaware of hunger or weariness. Everything in our lives falls into service of that which has claimed our attention.
Of all the things worthy of our searching, there's nothing more important than the search for God. For in that search we are not searching for something or someone outside of us. We are searching for the presence of God in our own precious soul.
That search requires nothing less than the entire fabric of our tattered heart. When we find the One we search for, the tatters will be smoothed and our soul made whole.
With all my heart, O God, help me trace the labyrinthine path into the center of my being until nothing is left but You - palpable in my soul.
