And he said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of God? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is smallest of all the seeds that be in the earth: but when it is sown, it grows up, and
becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches; so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.
—Mark 4:30-32
Did you know that the "Kingdom of God" is here, now? Did you think it is only after we die that the Kingdom comes to us? Lots of folks think that, but the truth is that it is here and now.
Jesus said, "The Kingdom of God is within you."(Luke 17:21) That is a wonderfully reassuring statement and a big clue to understanding this life and the world in which we live our days on earth.
There is never any need to be apart from God. Close your eyes and talk to him; He is always right next to you. The Kingdom of God, the dimension of divine presence, is part of our existence in this world. The Kingdom of God is like money in the bank: you can draw on it at any time.
As we live our lives and grow and learn, we are more and more likely to be aware of our need for God. We are more and more likely to know that God's presence can fill a void that can only be filled by Him. And the fact that the Kingdom of God is here and now, and not just after we die, is the secret that unlocks the door to peace and power in this life.
Call upon Him; he will not refuse you.
Lord, come be in my heart; give me the courage to invite you in daily. Amen.
