We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
—Romans 8:28a
It doesn’t matter how little money we think we have, or what false allegations have been made against us, or how we are being undermined by a co-worker. What matters is the depth of our relationship with God. This, more than trying to get back at those who are creating chaos in our lives, is what brings our soul peace.
When we encounter situations that leave us wondering where goodness is—on the job, in court or in the stress of life’s woes—the best thing that we can do is to be still. Be still and feel that hedge of love around us. In our stillness we will find the spirit of courage, patience, and trust slipping into our souls.
We will begin to feel God easing the tension that the stumbling blocks have created. The heart of God knows all and sees all. There’s no need for us to stand on the sidelines with revenge in our hearts.
God will aright what has been turned upside down. God will bring good out of the most difficult situation. God will repair the tattered pieces that we are unable to mend. We are safe in the hedge of divine love.
Gracious God, keep me from despair when stumbling blocks are put before me. Let me rest in the sureness of your love.
