OVERVIEW
              HOW
                    CAN I EXPLORE THE MYSTERY?
What the eye is to color, what the ear is to sound,
what the nose is to odor, faith is to the divine dimension of
reality. Faith is the capacity that we have been given by the
grace of God to perceive that which is essentially spiritual,
which is sacred and holy by nature. You reach religious conclusions
the same way the scientists reach conclusions in the laboratory.
The difference between the knowing of science and the knowing
of faith is that the object that we are perceiving is spiritual
                in nature and not physical.

              WHAT
                    CAN I KNOW FOR CERTAIN?
If you go to your favorite bookstore, you will find shelves of
literature about mankind's search for God - all sorts of Bible
study, meditation guides, and spiritual exercises that purport
to offer you a shorter journey in your quest to discover God. You
may very well find some resources there that are insightful and
helpful. At the same time, you need to recognize that almost all
of it is sheer speculation. Who among us is ready to claim complete
understanding of the mind of God? Who among us has the right to
claim that we can make infallible statements about what God thinks
about this or that contemporary social issue?

              WHAT
                    SHOWS ME THAT GOD CARES?
                                The
wonder of the Incarnation is that in Jesus we
are told that God and humanity are meant for
each other. We discover that God loves bodies,
God plays with matter, God speaks to us through
quarks and atoms and molecules, through blood
and lymph and bone. Through every human race
and culture. The Christian story tells us that
God chooses to be human, chooses to know human
life from the moment of conception to the suffering
of death. In Jesus, God knows intimately what
it is to be a toddler, to have a stomachache,
to feel the rain and wind, to be betrayed and
forsaken, to die. Incarnation is about God choosing
to be one of us, so that we might become communities
of compassion, mercy, courage, justice, care,
God’s embodied presence here and now.

              HOW
                    CAN JESUS HELP ME UNDERSTAND?
I need an interpreter. I need someone or something to
teach me what it's all about. The Scripture said Christ Jesus
of Nazareth became the interpreter of the nature and the mission
of God in the world--Jesus as the interpreter. Yes, I can believe
                that.

                           WHERE
CAN I TOUCH THE EDGE OF HEAVEN?
                                In
the Celtic tradition such places that give us
an opening into the magnificence and wonder of
that Presence are called “Thin Places.” There
is a Celtic saying that heaven and earth are
only three feet apart, but in the thin places
that distance is even smaller. A thin
place is where the veil that separates heaven
and earth is lifted and one is able to receive
a glimpse of the glory of God.
