Christmas Prayers
Gracious God, in the scurry and stress of Christmas, help me take moments of solitude where my heart can be alone with you. In the stillness of that solitude, I pray that your Spirit will surround and enfold me until my soul sits softly in the peace of your love. Amen.
For Comfort
Gracious God, the troubles of our country this year have left
me feeling fearful about the future.
The excitement of gift-giving and the celebration of Christmas have ebbed,
as uncertainty has risen. Help me
trust in your deep care. Let the
fullness of your love and the wonder of yourself be the gift that satisfies my
soul. I ask this for the sake of
your love. Amen.
For Awe
Gracious God, fill my heart with the delight and abandon that
is so palpable in children at Christmas time. Give me the desire to stare wide-eyed
and curious at the miracle of life, the power of love, and the profound awe of
mystery. Remind me to be child-like
in my joy as I look expectantly for the blessings that saturate my life. I ask this for the sake of your
love. Amen.
When You're Alone
Gracious God, I’m alone again this Christmas and my heart
aches for companionship. I long for
the days when my heart and home were filled with laughter, color, feasting, and
joy. Look with kindness on the pain
that seeps like an unwanted sickness over my soul. Let me wake on Christmas, joyful in
silence, hopeful with peace, filled with gratitude for your presence and
love. Amen.
